Speech and Language Therapy

What We Do:

Providing speech screenings and subsidized therapy can make a significant difference for students who need extra support. By offering these services in selected day schools, JES is helping ensure that students receive early intervention and ongoing assistance with their speech and language development.

  • Administrator speech screenings to kindergarten students
  • Provide 1:1 speech and language therapy to students at highly subsidized rates
  • Train teachers and teaching assistants to teach phonological awareness to nursery and kindergarten students

Work That Speaks Volumes

[Child’s Name] really enjoys her speech sessions and is always eager to show us what she’s done. It’s the only homework we don’t need to fight about!

Speech and Language Pathologists In Action

Molly was a typical third grader in every way.  She enjoyed playing with friends, reading and art. Mrs. Oliver, Molly’s teacher, met with her parents at the first quarter conferences. “Molly is doing so well in class…it’s just such a shame that she doesn’t participate as much as she could” Molly’s parents couldn’t understand why Molly was reluctant to speak up in class.

When asked about her speech, Molly shared, “I know I have trouble with the /r/ sound, and every time I want to speak, I worry I’ll sound like a baby, so I don’t raise my hand.” Her parents, understanding the impact this was having on her confidence, knew they had to act. Following the school’s recommendation, they reached out to JES for support. A JES speech pathologist conducted an informal assessment and recommended weekly speech therapy. Molly began therapy last month and is already highly motivated to improve. While she still needs plenty of practice, she’s optimistic and confident that with time, she’ll soon sound just like her peers!
