The Power of Parent Support Groups

As summer comes to an end, many families find themselves feeling both excited and stressed about the start of a new school year. New teachers, new routines, and new opportunities can bring hope, but for parents of children with ADHD, there can also be concerns about academics, friendships, organization, and getting the right support in place.
One of the most powerful ways to navigate these challenges is by connecting with other parents who truly understand. For more than 15 years, our CHADD Parent Support Group has provided a welcoming space for families to share experiences, learn strategies, and find encouragement. During COVID, we transitioned to a virtual format, allowing even more parents to participate and benefit from the support of our community
Parents consistently tell us that the group has helped them become better parents. They value knowing they are not alone, hearing different perspectives, learning how to advocate more effectively in school settings, and gaining practical tips for communicating with their children. Many share that the group provides the support and self-care they need to pause, reflect, and approach parenting with greater patience, understanding, and confidence. Most importantly, they leave with tools that help their children navigate challenges and thrive.
This fall, we’re excited to offer presentations focused on starting the school year with confidence, using the power of nature and movement to support regulation and well-being, and getting answers to common questions about ADHD medication from a child psychiatrist. These first three sessions starting in September are designed to provide practical strategies, expert guidance, and support when families need it most.
As we begin another school year, remember that support is available. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give our children is a community that helps us grow alongside them. Whether you are new to ADHD or have been on this journey for years, we hope you’ll join us.
