Parent Lecture Series

We were thrilled to launch our brand-new Parent Lecture Series, designed to provide valuable insights and practical tips for navigating the ups and downs of parenting. We kicked off on January 27th with Mariposa Learning’s session on “Compassion vs. Control: Finding the Balance You Need.” Parents discovered how to blend empathy with structure, learning practical techniques to support their children’s growth and development.
Following this, we held a two-part series: Understanding and Supporting Your Child’s Executive Function Challenges with JES’ Executive Function Coach, Sarah Ottensoser. She shared expert strategies to boost your child’s executive function skills at home, including planning, organization, time management, and self-regulation. Imagine helping your child create a daily schedule that not only manages tasks and activities but also brings a sense of accomplishment and routine to their day. Using tools like checklists and calendars can turn the chaos of assignments and deadlines into a manageable and even enjoyable process. Setting specific time frames for homework and breaks can teach your child the value of time management, helping them stay focused and productive. And by practicing mindfulness techniques together, you can support your child’s self-regulation, helping them manage stress and emotions more effectively. By incorporating these strategies, parents can effectively support their child’s executive function development and foster a more organized and balanced approach to daily tasks.
The series culminated with the 4th Annual Dr. Aviva Weisbord A”H Family First Lecture, Parenting in the Age of Anxiety, on March 17. Dr. David Rosmarin, Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and Founder of the Center for Anxiety, was the keynote speaker and shared practical strategies to help manage your worries and raise resilient, confident kids. By viewing anxiety as a tool rather than a threat, we can build emotional strength in ourselves and our children. Dr. Rosmarin’s four-step process—Identify, Share, Embrace, Let it Go—provides a structured approach to managing anxiety effectively.
Due to high demand, we’re bringing back another Executive Function workshop on Zoom on May 19. Click here to register.
